Deeply saddened to learn that CMJ died early this morning. We all knew that he was terribly ill but it is still a great shock.
For many of us "of a certain age" CMJ was the quintessential cricket communicator. I use the word advisedly because Christopher was equally at home in print as on radio and occasionally on television. He was also a superb public speaker with a rather wicked sense of humour and and gift for mimicry. But above all CMJ probably knew more about cricket than any person around today. He was a good successor to Swanton at the Telegraph but a better writer (in my view) and a more generous commentator. He was a superb Editor of "The Cricketer".
On Test Match Special CMJ was unmissable - not just for his lovely voice and his insights but for his team player attitude. He was occasionally mocked a bit - but he didn't seem to mind.
I'll let others who know better talk about his MCC roles. Suffice to say that he will be greatly missed by us all.
